The Bar Harbor Fire Department has partnered with the American Red Cross and has a supply of free smoke detectors for residents and apartment buildings in Bar Harbor.

The Fire Department is happy to scheduled times for installation of smoke detectors and with Daylight Savings Time ending on November 1st, coming in and changing out batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors if you need assistance. For those residents who may have difficulty in hearing, and may not hear a smoke detector sounding, they also have bed shakers available.

If you are interested in this service, you are asked to please fill out this form. They will then schedule a time to complete these installations or answer questions about fire safety.

Remember with Daylight Savings Time ending on Saturday, November 1st, now is the time to purchase new batteries for your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. It is important that you don't take out the batteries, unless you have new ones ready to install! There are unfortunately horror stories of firefighters going into houses and finding smoke detectors that didn't sound, because there were no batteries in them! Don't let that happen to you!

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
