The community is invited to join the Bar Harbor Food Pantry for a housewarming at their new location at 34 Kennebec Street in Bar Harbor on Wednesday, August 20th from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Bar Harbor Food Pantry purchased the former Mama DiMatteo's Restaurant in April of 2024. After substantial renovations, the Bar Harbor Food Pantry moved from their previous location in the basement of the YWCA on Mount Desert Street where they operated for over 25 years.

The purchase was made possible through the generosity of 3 MDI residents who supplied almost half of the total project cost and the support of the community.

According to Tom Reeves, the Bar Harbor Food Pantry's Executive Director, the number of households seeking assistance from the Food Pantry has more than doubled since 2022 and the figure was on track to double again in 2024. The surge in demand had stretched the capacity of the former space at the YWCA, particularly the dry and cold storage areas, resulting in shortages of staple good and higher costs for the pantry.

Light bites and drinks will be provided by the Side Street Cafe.
