The Bar Harbor Town Council met and took a vote 5-2 to draft a resolution renaming the 2nd Monday of October, now known as Columbus Day as Indigenous People's  Day. Following normal protocol, it would appear on the next meeting and be voted on. The next Bar Harbor Town Council Meeting is scheduled for October 17th

The Town of Bar Harbor currently does not recognize Columbus Day as a holiday. The request, by Councilor Matthew Hochman was put on the past Council agenda for discussion at the request of citizens. In the information provided to Bar Harbor Town Councilors, it was noted that the City of Bangor, the City of Portland and Town of Brunswick had recently voted to rename Columbus Day as Indigenous People's Day.
