The Town of Bar Harbor has prohibited outdoor burning temporarily, effective immediately on Friday, August 22nd until further notice because of the intense dry conditions and high fire danger.

Chief Matt Bartlett issued the following statement

Effective immediately, and to be proactive in protecting the Town of Bar Harbor, we have suspended all outdoor burning, including campfires, for the entire town. The shutdown is caused by several factors, including a lack of recent rain, ongoing high fire danger, and forecasted increased winds with gusts reaching up to 30 mph. On Sunday morning, we will review our decision using the State of Maine Forest fire danger report, the National Weather Service weather forecast, and other information available to the department to determine how long the suspension should remain in effect. I sincerely thank the citizens and visitors for helping us keep the Town of Bar Harbor safe. If anyone has questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Fire Department directly at 207-288-5554.
