Bar Harbor Bed Races November 9 [PHOTOS]
Cottage Street in Bar Harbor was lined 3-4 deep with spectators in their pajamas for the Annual Bar Harbor Bed Races and Early Bird Pajama Sale.
Temperatures were in the lower 40's and there was a good breeze but that didn't stop 11 teams from competing or the hundreds of spectators.
Competing in the Bed Races were
• Conners Emerson
• Bar Harbor Inn
• Peas D'Resistance - Camp Beech Cliff
• Bed Subcommittee
• Sleepy Seniors - MDI High School
• Hadley Point Gang
• The Acadian Corporation
• Acadia Youth Sports
• Friends of Acadia
• Morril Pond Purrfect Paws
• Inn on Mount Desert
Teams of 4 had to push/pull their bed on wheels from The Criterion to the corner of Cottage and Main Street and then back down to the Start/Finish line. To make it a little more challenging the teams had to come to a complete stop in a designated area, and have the runners switch sides, left-right and right-;left. They had to complete this on the way up, and on the way back. Failure to do so would result in a 5 second penalty each time! This came to bite many of the teams!
Every team ran once, and then the Top-5 teams ran again. The final 2 teams then competed for the championship.
When all was said and done, the Hadley Point Gang came out on top with a time of 42.60 seconds. The Sleepy Seniors of MDI High School came in second with a time of 43.87 in the final heat. The Conners Emerson Team was voted Most Spirited.
The event took 1 hour, and spectators were heard commenting that they couldn't wait until next year! I had an absolute ball emceeing the event and thank all involved and all who participated and those who watched and cheered on the runners!
