Bangor Goes Crazy for Lobsters

Cars were lined up for over a mile on Broadway, in Bangor, Friday night as Mainers waited in line for over two hours to purchase lobsters for $4.00 each. That wasn't $4.00 a pound, it was $4.00 for a whole lobster. There were no restrictions on the number of lobsters that could be purchased, but they were supposed to have been pre-ordered, and pre-ordered they were! There were 2500 lobsters pre-ordered, and with a average weight of 1 1/4 pounds, that means 3125 pounds of lobster 1.56 ton of lobster were waiting to be boiled or broiled!

Lobsters were available at the Prudential Singleton Building on Broadway. This is scheduled to be a weekly event, and based upon the overwhelming success of the first Friday, I would expect even more will be ordered next week.
