August – A Time to Say Good-Bye
It seems hard to believe, but today, August 21, I put my son on a plane out to Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota. He's off to SMSU for his 5th year of college, and even though I give him a ton of grief about being there for 5 plus years, I'm very proud of him!
Craig is in a wheelchair, and has cerebral palsy. Despite the fact that it takes him a bit longer to do things, he's made the Dean's list, he's a former wheelchair basketball player for SMSU and is now a student coach. He's been wheelchair basketball representative for the Athletic Department for 4 years, and on top of everything else, he's a really great kid...Well technically a young adult as he's 22!
I can't believe that he's gone, it just seems like he got home in May and although I know it's part of growing up, not only for him, but for my wife and I too. It's hard to know I won't see him till December. I have a giant lump in my throat as I write this. Have a good semester Craigy... I'll talk to you tonight.
For all the parents sending your children off to college, daycare, or school... I'll share my tissue box with you!
