This is a day you need to prepare for... National Banana Split Day! I'm planning on celebrating with my neighbors, who have 4 boys 10 and under, and we're going to have a Make Your Own Banana Split for dessert on Tuesday, August 25th

I'm off to the store to buy bananas, enough ice cream so everyone can have 3 little scoops, whipped cream, nuts, maraschino cherries, and then butterscotch, chocolate and either strawberry or pineapple sauces!

According to Days of the Year website the world record for the longest banana split was set in Selinsgrove, Pennslyania! This stretched 4.5 miles, and it consisted of 33,000 bananas, as well as 150 gallons of chocolate and 2,500 gallons of ice cream.

The banana split can trace it's history to the Tassel Pharmacy in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. There David Evans Stickler, an apprentice pharmacist at Tassel Pharmacy created the banana split in 1904! It quickly became a hit with the students at Saint Vincent College

And for those of a certain age, when we say Banana Split you might remember this!
