We are delighted to share that Amelia VanDongen will receive the MDI High School Principal's Award.

MDI High School Principal  Matt Haney made the announcement on Monday, March 24th.

VanDongen of Bar Harbor, a senior at MDI High School, has been selected to receive the 2025 Principal's Award, which is sponsored by the Maine Principals' Association, and is given in recognition of a high school senior's academic achievement and citizenship.

Principal Haney says the following about Amelia, "We are incredibly proud to recognize Amelia VanDongen as the 2025 MDI High School Principal's Award winner. Amelia's dedication to excellence in the classroom, on the cross country course, and in track and field is truly inspiring. Beyond her achievements, she consistently demonstrates quiet leadership and kindness, making her a remarkable role model for her peers."

Amelia will be joined by teacher and MDIHS Hall of Fame Track and Field Coach Renee Laber along with other award winners and their principals at an Honors Luncheon at Jeff’s Catering on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 12:30 p.m.

The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of ten $1,000 scholarships in the names of former Maine principals and MPA Executive Directors: Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler, and Richard A. Durost.
