A Tale of 2 Halves – Bangor Wins 2nd Half and Game Defeat MDI Girls 42-24 [STATS]
It was a tale of 2 halves, unfortunately for the MDI Varsity Girls Basketball Team, Bangor dominated the 2nd Half, and beat the Trojans 42-24 on Friday, January 29th in the Trojans 1st home game of the season.
Bangor led 8-6 in the 1st Quarter. Libby Fleming had 4 points for the Rams, while Maggie Cowperthwaite and Amelia Quinn each had 2 points. For MDI, Elizabeth Jones scored 6 points, all in the paint.
In the 2nd Quarter, MDI outscored Bangor 11-9 to tie the score at the end of the 1st Half 17-17. For MDI Jones had 6 more points, all inside, while Mollie Gray had 5 points, including a 3-pointer. For Bangor Cowperthwaite had 6 points and Libby Fleming 3 points.
In the 3rd Quarter, Bangor dominated, outscoring MDI 16-1 to take a 33-18 lead. Lily Chandler, Cowperthwaite and Taylor Coombs each had 4 points for the Rams, while Laela Martinez and Libby Fleming each had 2 points. For Bangor, their lone point came from Elena Alderman on the free throw line.
In the 4th Quarter, Bangor outscored MDI 9-6. Cassidy Ireland had 4 points for Bangor while Lily Chandler had 3 points and Maggie Cowperthwaite 2 points. For MDI Jones had 3 points, Leah Carroll 2 points and Sophia Brophy 1 point from the free throw line.
Bangor was led by Maggie Cowperthwaite with 14 points while Libby Fleming had 9 points. The Rams were 4-11 from the free throw line.
MDI was led by Elizabeth Jones with a game high 15 points while Mollie Gray had 5 points. The Trojans were 3-15 from the free throw line.
MDI is now 2-1. The Trojans were scheduled to host Hampden on Tuesday, February 2nd, but that game has been moved to Monday, February 1st at 5:45 p.m. because of the impending storm. That game will be broadcast on the MDI NFHS Page (subscription required)
