If you are traveling through Bar Harbor or the Carriage Trails of Acadia National Park you might encounter Skye Bruggeman on her bicycle.

She's no novice rider. She biked 4252 miles from Seattle to Bar Harbor taking 63 days and arriving on August 22nd.

When I spoke to her the other day, my first questions was "Why did she do this?" She told me that she really loves riding a bike and it's a great way to see parts of the United States that she has never seen before! She said that loves endurance events and taking long bike rides.

Skye explained that she traveled alone, without a support network. She camped out overnight and had a few people host her along the way. When she needed supplies, she went grocery shopping.

Skye told me that she didn't really experience any major mechanical issues along her trip, other than 3 flat tires, and had to get a new set of tires in North Dakota.

I asked Skye if she was biking back to Seattle or how she was going to return, but she explained that her parents live on MDI so she's not planning on returning to Seattle. She is actually going to be working at Cadillac Mountain Outfitters.

Prior to her trip, she worked in a bike shop, and had spent 1 summer working in Acadia National Park, building trails for the Park Service.

I asked her what the longest she biked in any one day, and she told me 100 miles, and only experienced a couple days of really bad weather along the way, although she did mention that she started in snow in the mountains in Seattle!
