Today In Red Sox History

March 22, 1972. Not a good day in Red Sox history, as that was the day that the Boston Red Sox traded Sparky Lyle to the New York Yankees for first baseman Danny Cater.

Sparky Lyle went on to pitch another 13 years, before retiring with the Chicago White Sox in1982 .Lyle was a 3 time All Star Selection (1973, 1976 and 1977), a 2 time World Series Champion with the New York Yankees (1977, 1978) and the 1977 Cy Young Award Winner for the American League.
