Acadia National Park is a popular tourist destination located primarily on Mount Desert Island, Maine. It was established on January 19, 1929. The oceanside park is located near Bar Harbor, Maine, which features shops, restaurants, theaters and recreational opportunities. If you travel to and from Mount Desert Island you probably have noted that the gate remains shut and locked to Acadia National Park's Thompson Island Picnic Area. As of Tuesday, June 16th the picnic area remains temporarily closed.

Carriage Roads Open In Acadia National Park
All Carriage Roads in Acadia National Park are open to pedestrians effective June 5, 2020. Hikers and walkers are able to use the Carriage Roads, but they remain closed to bicyclists and horseback while repairs made

Acadia National Park released the following opening dates on Thursday, May 28th, including the fact that the Park Loop Road will be open to vehicular traffic effective June 1st. This allows cars to go to Sand Beach, Thunder Hole and the top of Cadillac Mountain!
