The Waterville Purple Panthers' Football Team has owned the MDI Trojans the last few years. On Friday night, September 22nd the Trojans thoroughly outplayed Waterville, after the 1st play of the game, winning 36-16 in Bar Harbor.

MDI won the coin toss and elected to defer, choosing to kickoff and receive the ball to start the 2nd Half. Sound strategy, but Waterville's Dawson Harrison had something to say about that.

He took Spencer Laurendeau's kick at the 25 yard line and ran virtually untouched into the end zone. Waterville scored on the 2-point conversion, and with less than 10 seconds gone, the Purple Panthers led 8-0.

MDI then took over on their own 40 yard line and were promptly forced to punt the ball.

Waterville took over on their own 14 yard line with 9:57 remaining in the 1st Quarter. MDI's defense held, forcing the Purple Panthers to punt.

MDI took over with excellent field position on the Waterville 42 yard line, with 8:28 left in the 1st Quarter. It took just 17 seconds and Spencer Laurendeau raced into the end zone from 35 yards out for the touchdown. The 2-point conversion was no good and Waterville led 8-6.

Waterville was forced to punt again, and the Trojans took over on their own 9 yard line, with 5:45 left. On the 1st play, Laurendeau connected on a 91 yard touchdown pass to Jacob Shields who raced into the end zone in 7 seconds. With the 2-point conversion the Trojans led 14-8.

Waterville took over on their own 47 yard line with 5:28 left in the 1st Quarter. They marched down the field, scoring in 5:09 when Ben Foster ran in from 2 yards out. With the 2-point conversion, Waterville led 16-14. as the 1st Quarter ended.

MDI then took the ball down the field, and their drive was stymied when the Purple Panthers intercepted Laurendeau in the end zone, taking over on their own 20 yard line.

Again the Trojan's defense stiffened, forcing Waterville to turn the ball over on downs.. With 4:41 left in the 1st Half, MDI had the ball on their own 36 yard line. It took just 1:25 and MDI was in the end zone again, this time on a Laurendeau 20 yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion was no good, and MDI led 20-16.

MDI would score again, after Waterville punted. taking over on their own 32 yard line with 52.4 seconds left. Again the Trojans scored, this time on a 11 yard run by Laurendeau. The 2-point conversion was good, and MDI led 28-16 at the end of the 1st Half.

MDI outgained Waterville 328-118 total offensive yards in the 1st Half, and led in rushing 174-115

In the 2nd Half, MDI received the ball and held the ball for 6:28, scoring for the final time on a 2 yard run by Laurendeau, his 4th rushing touchdown of the night. The 2-point conversion was good, and MDI led 36-16.

In the 2nd Half both Waterville and MDI lost the ball on fumbles and the Trojans also picked off a Waterville pass.

MDI was penalized 5 times.
