The Ellsworth Eagles Cheerleading Team is one of the best in the State. It's because of the coaching, the feeder program and the devotion of the team members. It's always fantastic to see someone who has loved cheering continue it and start giving back to the next generation of cheerers, and such is the case with Ellsworth High School alumni Heather Tupper!

After graduating high school in 2011, Tupper enrolled at the University of Maine in Orono majoring in nursing. While attending UMaine, she became a Black Bear Cheerleader for both the Football team and the Men/Women’s basketball teams. Each year they would compete at the NCA Collegiate Nationals held in Daytona Beach, Florida.

While in school she worked at the Old Town/Orono YMCA teaching tumbling classes to kids of all ages, both group and individual lessons. She also worked at Big Ten Cheer for three years teaching tumbling, stunting, jump and flexibility techniques, as well as having coached an all-star team.  In 2014, Tupper sustained two consecutive knee injuries that ended her career as an athlete where she took a break from the cheerleading world to focus more on school and rehab.

Now, Tupper is am enrolled at EMCC in Bangor working towards her nursing degree. Additionally, since the end of this summer, she hasbeen teaching cheer tumbling class at Springer’s Gymnastics Center. Even better she is now the cheering coach for the Orono Red Riots.

According to Tupper

I am extremely excited for the upcoming season as part of the Orono Red Riots and hope not to disappoint! I have the honor of stepping into a great program filled with hardworking athletes and great mentors. I hope to carry out some of the same traditions as well as start some new ones with the cheerleading team. Great things are in store for this season and I am ready to get started!
