Downtown Bangor was empty and COLD at 7:30 AM on January 1st when it was 18 degrees BELOW Zero! In the distance you can see the steam coming off the heaters on the roofs!

It's going to be colder too in the next couple of days! The National Weather Service in Caribou is warning that this will be the coldest stretch since 2009! Tonight, we can expect temperatures 25 to 40 below across Northern Maine and from 10 to 25 below in the Bangor and Down East Maine area, and that's raw temperature, not taking into account any wind chills!

Thursday and Friday, the temperatures won't get higher than 5 below zero in Northern Maine, with highs expected from 5 to 15 below zero. In the Bangor and Down East Maine, we can expect highs of 5 below zero to 5 above zero! Again these are raw temperatures, without wind chills.

So be sure to bundle up! Make sure your pets are inside. If you are going to be outside, especially at night, be sure that any exposed skin is covered up as frostbite can occur quickly!

But don't worry, it will be a balmy 20 for the weekend, and then everyone will be outside without a coat, as it will feel tropical compared to the weather we are experiencing now!
