Bangor Hydro Power Outage Update 8:45 PM

Down East Maine has been especially hard hit by the Ice Storm. Bangor Hydro Electric has all available crews working on restoring the power as quickly and safely as possible. Customers without power now, should make preparations to be without power overnight.. Here's the latest power outage update from Bangor Hydro Electric Company.

Restoration Details:		Crews have made significant progress in restoring service to thousands of Bangor Hydro customers impacted by the ice storm this weekend but there is still much to be repaired. Hardest hit were Hancock and Washington counties where icing on power lines and trees near lines caused significant damage to the system. Currently there are just over 7,800 customers out, down from a storm high of approximately 18,000. Towns with widespread outages remaining include Ellsworth, Otis, Trenton, and Addison but other smaller outages are scattered throughout Hancock and Washington counties. The remote nature of those repairs will slow restoration times. Additional crews from areas less affected have been sent to assist Downeast and they will continue their work throughout the night. Customers currently without power should plan to be out overnight. Crews are working in slick travel conditions and customers can assist in these efforts by making sure that roads are plowed and sanded. Customers in and around Bangor, northern Penobscot, Piscataquis and Aroostook counties have been relatively unaffected by the storm.br> The public is reminded to stay clear of downed lines or trees in contact with them, and anyone using alternate heat sources should follow manufacturer safety precautions. Generators should always be well ventilated.
