The Boston Red Sox’s winning streak stands at 8 games, after the Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday night, August 9th 8-2. The Red Sox scored 3 runs thanks to two wild pitches and a passed ball by the Rays.
Rick Porcello pitched well before giving up 2 homers in the 6th inning. He ended up throwing 6.0 innings allowing the 2 runs, on 4 hits. He struck out 7 and walked 2. In the 5th inning, Porcello threw an “Immaculate Inning”. An “Immacualte Inning” is when a pitcher retires the side on 9 strikes, throwing just 9 pitches. This is the 2nd time a Red Sox pitcher has done this, this year.Craig Kimbrel did this once in relief. Porcello is now 6-14 on the season.
Eduardo Nunez again batted lead-off and was 2-5. Andrew Benintendi was 3-5 with a double. Brock Holt, playing 2nd base in the place of Dustin Pedroia, was 1-4, scoring 2 runs.
