It seems impossible to believe that we have done this for 22 years, but on Saturday, May 18th, we will be conducting our 22nd  Annual Ton of Pasta event, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.! Hopefully, DJ Fred will be making a special guest appearance, and I'll be broadcasting live from the Ellsworth Hannaford.

We will be located in the Ellsworth Hannaford Parking Lot. Look for us next to the Loaves and Fishes Van!

All the pasta and cash donation that we collect at the Ellsworth Hannaford will be split between the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, and the Bar Harbor Food Pantry

Last year, through your incredible generosity, in Ellsworth alone, between the actual pasta and cash that you dropped off, we collected the equivalent of just over a ton of pasta.

We will have sister stations at the Brewer Hannaford, and the Broadway (Bangor) and Bangor Mall Hannafords collecting pasta from 10 a.m., to 1 p.m. on May 18th.

Through the 21 years we have done this in gale force winds and freezing temperatures . It will be a big change to collect pasta when the wind chill isn't below 0!  It is truly amazing to hear stories of listeners who had been on the receiving end of pasta from previous Ton of Pasta Food Drives and are now in a position to help their fellow Mainers. To see little children coming up and putting in pasta on the table or donating a dollar or their contents of their piggy banks warms our hearts.

Last year one mom asked me to explain to her young daughter about the importance of donating a box of pasta. The little girl was maybe 5, 6 or 7. I asked her if she opened her refrigerator was there food in there? She nodded and told me yes. I explained that unfortunately, some of her friends weren't so lucky, and when they opened their refrigerator, there wasn't food in there for them to eat. That seemed to hit home.

One year, I hope to hear from the food pantries that they don't need the pasta. This year certainly isn't the case with the electrical bills, the cost of fuel and the rising prices that we are all facing. In fact, this year seems to be one of the years with the greatest need, according to the food pantries.

I hope that you will be able to come out and support our efforts at the Ellsworth Hannaford and the 22nd  Annual Ton of Pasta on Saturday, May 18th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.!
