In a game that featured 27 hits and 18 runs the Boston Red Sox came up on the short side of 10-8 game in the opener of their series with the Chicago White Sox.The game got off to a rough start when Joe Kelly allowed 4 runs in the top of the first inning. While Boston cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning, Kelly never settled in and was pulled with one out in the 4th after allowing 5 runs on 7 hits and a hit batter.

The White Sox took the lead for good by scoring 4 runs over the final 4 innings thanks in part to Adam Eaton who had 2 hits and 3 rbi.

Mookie Betts led the Boston offense with 2 hits and 3 rbi while David Ortiz homered for the third time in the last 2 games.

The Red Sox who were already shorthanded after the trade of Shane Victorino earlier in the day and Brock Holt unavailable because of an injury, became even more shorthanded when Mike Napoli was ejected from the game after striking out in the first inning. Napoli slammed his helmet to the ground which then hit the home plate umpire. Daniel Nava would take his place the rest of the game.

Game two of the series is tonight with Wade Miley facing Jeff Samardzjia. The pregame starts at 6:25 with the 1st pitch at 7:10. The Red Sox will retire Pedro Martinez's number prior to the game.
