Veteran’s Grave Needs Repair

I saw this on the Facebook page of the Mount Desert Island Historical Society. This is the grave of Lewis Heath, who was born on February 14, 1832. At the age of 29, in 1861 Lewis joined the 8th Regiment out of Augusta, Maine in the Civil War in September 1861. Lewis never returned home alive, as he was killed in the Battle of Cold Harbor, Virginia, on June 10, 1864, at the age of 32 . He is buried at the Oak Hill Cemetery.

The Mount Desert Island Historical Society is working with the Town of Mount Desert and expert stone craftsman Steve Haynes to repair Lewis' gravestone. They are looking to donate $300.00. Can you help? No donation is too small, you can donate by clicking HERE
