Investigators with the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office believe they’ve identified the man who was driving a pickup truck that struck and killed a woman in Turner Saturday night.

CBS 13 reports Sheriff Eric Samson says a 27-year-old man from Harrison contacted police after he saw the story on the news. The man, whose name has not been released, told police he thought he hit a deer, said Samson.

Brittany Stanhope, 21, was struck and killed by a truck while she was standing outside her vehicle on the side of Route 117. The driver of the truck never pulled over following the accident.

Police say the driver is cooperating with the investigation.
