On Maine Day at Fenway Park, the Boston Red Sox fell to the Baltimore Orioles, 7-6, in 12 innings, in a game that took just over 5 hours to play.

The Orioles took a early lead 1-0 in the top of the 4th, when Xander Bogaerts through the ball into the dugout on a routine play to third, which allowed Nelson Cruz to score.

In the top of the 6th inning, the O's made it 2-0 when Caleb Joseph's sacrifice fly to right field allowed Delmon Young to score.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, the Red Sox got 1 run back when David Ortiz's single scored Daniel Nava. That made the score Baltimore 2 Boston 1.

In the 7th inning, which lasted over a hour, both teams combined for 9 runs, as Baltimore scored 4 and the Sox added 5, and at the end of the 7th inning the score was knotted 6-6. David Ross homered to start the seventh for Boston, with his third homer in his last five games. Xander Bogaerts, who ended an 0-for-27 drought, singled to score Jackie Bradley Jr. Brock Holt singled into shallow center, then Daniel Nava grounded one up the middle to drive in Bogaerts before Dustin Pedroia struck out. David Ortiz then singled to short right field through the shift to score Holt.

Jake Peavey pitched well in the start for the Red Sox, going 6 innings, giving up 2 runs, 1 of which was earned, 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out 3. Edward Mujica took the loss for the Red Sox, and his record dropped to 2-4 as he allowed the winning run in the 12th inning.

And earlier, making a catch and throwing out Manny Machado at the plate for a double play.

The Red Sox start a series with the Chicago White Sox tomorrow, July 7th.
