It happened quickly in the bottom of the 9th inning. A leadoff double off Sox reliever Brandon Workman. Then a bunt, a bad throw and a run. Game over, Cleveland beats Boston 5-4.

Not a great way to start an important four game series.

While the ending was quick and it was a Brock Holt (playing 1st bases) throwing error to third base that allowed the winnning run to score, it was really the Sox bullpen that caused most of the issues.

With both Addison Reed and Craig Kimbrel needing a night off, manager John Farrell tried Matt Barnes and Heath Hembree to get through the 8th inning.

They couldn't. Robbie Scott bailed them out with the score 4-4.

Then it was Brandon Workman on for the 9th and he took the loss.

The Sox offense was really just two swings - an Andrew Benintendi two-run homer and a Hanley Ramirez two-run homer. There were only three other hits.

Game two of the series tonight. Cleveland has some issues as both Andrew Miller and Carlos Santana had to leave the game with injuries. The pregame starts at 6:25 with the 1st pitch at 7:10 on AM 1370 WDEA.
