Sheriff’s Office Releases Identities in Orrington Hit and Run

The Penobscot County Sheriff's office has released the identities of the people involved in a hit and run accident in Orrington on Saturday. The crash resulted in one person being hospitalized while police and a game warden plane searched for the other driver.

Chief Deputy Troy Morton said in a press release today that the accident involved two vehicles traveling south on Route 15, also known as the River Road, in Orrington. Just before 11:30 in the morning, the lead vehicle, a black GMC SUV being driven by 59-year-old Robin Rie of Brewer, slowed down to make a left turn into a vegetable stand.

The second vehicle, a gold Dodge sedan being driven by 29-year-old Marc Sparks of Bucksport, struck the back of Rie's vehicle, sending it off the road and into the porch of a residence. Witnesses say Sparks stopped briefly before leaving the scene.

A search located the sedan and Sparks admitted to police that he was involved in the crash. Sparks was not injured but Rie was given CPR by neighbors before emergency crews could arrive and remains in critical condition at the hospital.

The cause and other details in this accident are still being investigated. There's no word on whether charges will be filed.
