After a day with no new COVID cases the Boston Red Sox scratched Jarren Duran just before the game, placing him on the COVID Injured List, their 9th player on the list. The Red Sox went on to defeat the Indians at Fenway Park 8-5.

The Red Sox currently have Kike Hernandez, Christian Arroyo, Xander Bogaerts, Hirokazu Sawamura, Josh Taylor, Matt Barnes, Yairo Munez, Martin Perez and Duran on the COVID list.

Friday night, Nathan Eovaldi went 6.1 innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs. He struck out 9 and walked 2. He left with the game tied 3-3.

Adam Ottavino came on and finished the 7th inning, striking out both batters he faced. He was credited with the win and is now 4-3 on the season.

Ryan Brasier started the 8th inning and was lifted after getting 2 outs and allowing 2 hits and 1 run.

Garrett Whitlock pitched the final 1.1 innings, allowing 1 run and 3 hits. He struck out 2 and picked up his 2nd save of the season.

Kyle Schwarber led off the game for the Red Sox with his 29th homer of the season. He finished the evening 2-5, with a 2-run double to put the Red Sox ahead in the 7th inning.

Kevin Plawecki hit a solo homer in the 2nd inning.

Hunter Renfroe hit a 3-run homer in the 7th inning, his 26th of the season

Jonathan Arauz was 2-4 with a double and his 2nd homer of the season

Jack Lopez was 1-2, with a double, his 1st hit of his major league career.

For the Indians Jose Ramirez hit his 32nd homer. He also doubled and had a RBI single in the 9th inning, going 3-5.

Austin Hedges hit his 8th homer, a 2-run shot that tied the game at 3-3 and knocked Eovaldi out of the game

The Red Sox remain 8 games out of 1st place and are 1.5 games behind the Yankees for the 1st Wild Card position. The A's lost, so the Red Sox are now 3 games ahead of Oakland for the final Wild Card position.

The Red Sox and Indians will play Saturday afternoon, with the pregame starting at 3:10 and 1st pitch at 4:10 p.m. on AM 1370 WDEA
