Those that love watching the surf may want to head to the downeast area today or tomorrow.

What's left of Hurricane Epsilon may be miles and miles away from the Maine coast, but large wave swells are traveling through the gulf of Maine and beginning to hit our rocky shoreline. This may indeed warrant a Saturday road trip to places like Park Loop Road or Schoodic Point, both within Acadia National Park.

National Weather Service is predicting waves at 5 to 7 feet today between Schoodic Point and Stonington, and up to 25 miles off shore. Waves will be at 6 to 8 feet throughout Saturday, and then 7 to 9 feet Saturday night before finally subsiding throughout the day on Sunday.

Forecasters tell us that the surf could be "life threatening" and could be accompanied by rip currents along both the Maine coast and Atlantic Canada.  So, while you're out there standing on the wet rocks with your camera in hand, be aware that Mother Nature is indeed a force to be reckon with and be careful.

Weather for the weekend looks good enough for wave watching or working out in the yard with partly to mostly cloudy skies on Saturday and a high temperature of 61, and then  partly to mostly sunny on Sunday with highs only in the uppers 40s.

A reminder, if you do travel to Acadia National Park you'll need a park pass.
