Police have released the name of a man who was killed Saturday afternoon when he lost control of his vehicle in Ellsworth and it rolled onto its roof.

Police Chief Pete Bickmore told the Ellsworth American that the man was traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 179, when the driver lost control of the pickup truck just north of the Patriot Road. The vehicle left the road and went into a swampy area, rolling over onto its roof. 46-year-old Jonathan Donathan of Fletcher's Landing was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The investigation closed Route 179 for some time Saturday afternoon as police worked to reconstruct the accident. Ellsworth Police were assisted by the Ellsworth Fire Department and Ambulance, the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, and the Maine State Police.
