The MDI Boys had never beaten Ellsworth in post season basketball, but no one told this year's basketball team and the #12 MDI Trojans upset the #5 Ellsworth Eagles Wednesday night at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth by the score of 52-45. MDI will play Gardiner on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 PM, as #4 Gardiner defeated #13 Mount View 77-55.

MDI jumped out to a 18-13 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. James O'Donnell had 5 point, Riley Swanson had a 3-pointer, and Andrew Phelps, Graham Good, Aaron Snurkowski, Russell Kropff and Devin Parlatore had 2 points each for MDI. For Ellsworth Alex Braley had 5 points, Conor Maguire had 3 points, Cooper Henderson had 2 points, Bruce St. Peter had 2 points and Bryce Harmon had 1 point. Ellsworth was 3-8 from the free throw line in the 1st Quarter, a trend that would haunt them throughout the game.

MDI led at the end of the 1st Half 29-24. Gus Reeves had 5 points including a 3-pointer, Good, Kropff and Swanson added 2 points each. For Ellsworth, Harmon had 5 points, Maguire, Nick Bagley, and St. Peter had 2 points each.

At the end of the 3rd Quarter, Ellsworth had cut the lead to 3 points, as MDI led 36-33. Russell Kropff had a 3-pointer, Snurkowski had 2 points and O'Donnell had 2 points for MDI. For Ellsworth Bruce St. Peter had 3 points, Derek Look, Henderson and Braley had 2 points each.

In the 4th Quarter, Ellsworth took a brief lead, but the Trojans hit their free throws down the stretch, going 8-9. Graham Good had 5 points, Andrew Phelps had 4 points, Aaron Snurkowski had 3 points and Russell Kropff and Riley Swanson had 2 points each. For Ellsworth Bryce Harmon had 4 points and Nick Bagley had a 3-pointer. Alex Braley had 3 points and Bruce St. Peter had 2 points for the Eagles.
