MDI Girls Defeat Old Town 64-41
The MDI Girl's Basketball Team improved to 9-1 halfway through the season, with a 64-41 victory over the Old Town Coyotes, Tuesday, January 7th at Bernard Parady Gymnasium in Bar Harbor.
MDI went out to a quick 7-0 lead with 33 seconds gone in the 1st Quarter when Sierra Myrick drained a 3-pointer, Hannah Shaw added a basket and then Myrick added another basket. MDI never looked back from that point on. Myrick ended the 1st Quarter with 8 points, including 2 3-pointers, and Hannah Shaw had 7 points for MDI. Old Town's Lauren Martin had 6 of Old Town's 10 points, and at the end of the 1st Quarter, MDI led 21-10.
MDI increased their lead in the 2nd Quarter. Kelsey Shaw had 6 points, as did Sara Norberg for MDI. Norberg and Sarah Phelps hit 3-pointers for the Trojans. Martin went 3-4 from the free throw line for Old Town, and at the end of the 1st Half, MDI was up by 18, 38-20.
Old Town outscored MDI in the 3rd Quarter, 10-7. Brooke Mishou had 5 points for Old Town, and Myrick hit her 3rd 3-pointer for MDI. At the end of the 3rd Quarter MDI was up 45-30.
In the 4th Quarter Kelsey Shaw added 6 points, and Sierra Myrick, hit her 4th 3-pointer of the game. Nicole Robichaud went 5-6 from the free throw line for Old Town. MDI won comfortably 64-41.
MDI was led by Kelsey Shaw with 16 points, Sierra Myrick had 14 and Hannah Shaw had 11 points. Hannah Shaw is now 27 points from 1000. MDI was 10-11 from the free throw line.
Old Town was led by Lauren Martin with 12 point, and Brooke Mishou had 9 points. Old Town was 19-25 from the free throw line.
Up next for MDI this week are games at George Steven's Academy Thursday, January 9th at 7 PM, and then a home game against John Bapst Saturday, January 11th at 3:30. That game will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370.
Old Town, now 1-8 on the season, plays at Hermon on Thursday, January 9th at 7 PM and then at Orono on Saturday January 11th at 7 PM.
