The MDI Girls defeated the Ellsworth Girls Thursday, September 12th in MDI 's home opener at Bernard Parady Gymnasium, by a score of 17-25, 25-23, 12-25, 25-20, 15-6, winning the match 3-2. With the victory MDI improves to 2-0 on the season while Ellsworth falls to 1-1.

From MDI Head Coach Corey Papadopoli:

What a game.  It was really great fun to watch, and it was good to have such a good crowd on hand for our home opener.  We made a lot of mistakes and still have a lot of work to do but the girls really pulled together as a team last night.  Before the match I told them I thought either team could win and that this game would come down to attitude and heart.  And both teams played tremendously.  But I think, in the end, the difference was that when the game was on the line, MDI played to win, and that was a major shift in the girls’ attitudes.  They showed real grit at the end and did not let up.  It was also great to see such displays of good sportsmanship from both teams.  For such a rivalry as this is, I never sensed any negative energy displayed from one team toward the other.  It was commendable.  It should be a good rematch in October and I would encourage anyone nearby to come and watch!
