Congratulations to the MDI High School Class of 2014! Commencement activities include Awards Night at 7:30 on Thursday, June 12th and Graduation at 2 PM on Sunday June 15th. Both of these events will be held in Bernard Parady Gymnasium.

MDI has co-valedictorians, which is fitting as they are twins! Both Isabel Erickson and Olivia Erickson have identical grade point averages of 3.987. Speaking parts at graduation have been chosen by a vote, one by the senior class, and one by the faculty and staff.

Isabel is the daughter of Susan Murphy and Jeff Erickson of Bar Harbor. She plans to attend Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, majoring in biochemistry and pre-med. As a high school student, Isabel has been a member of the National Honor Society. Isabel is also a standout athlete, captaining the outdoor track and field team and helping to lead the way with the two time state champion swim and three time state champion cross country teams.

 

Olivia Erickson Co-Valedictorian

Olivia is the daughter of Susan Murphy and Jeff Erickson of Bar Harbor. She plans to attend Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, majoring in Government or Neuroscience. Olivia enhanced her science education this year through an internship at the Jackson Lab. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the treasurer for the National Art Honor Society. Olivia is an accomplished athlete. She is a captain of the outdoor track and field team, and played key roles in the five state championships won by the girls cross country and swim teams.

Joseph (Gus) DenDanto - Speaker Chosen by Faculty and Staff

Joseph is the son of Megan Smith and Dan DenDanto of Seal Cove. His academic interests fall primarily in the Social Studies area, particularly pre-American discovery. He has excelled in all manners of extracurriculars including show choir, student council and during his junior and senior years, he was the stage manager for the one act play. Gus has shown great leadership as the senior class vice president. He plans to either attend Husson University or the University of Maine in the fall.

Jane is the daughter of Davonne Pappas of Mount Desert and Steve Pappas of Barre, Vermont. She also lives with her step-father Ted Keultjes. In pursuit of her scientific passions, she completed an internship at the MDI Bio Lab this year. Jane has been a member of the speech team, National Honor Society, jazz and pep bands. Jane will attend the University of Maine in the fall to study marine sciences and biology.
