MDI Boys Advance to the Semifinals on Wednesday!

The MDI Boys jumped out to an early lead and then came back to defeat a determined Winslow Black Raiders Team 48-42 Friday night February 15th in the 3rd and final game of opening night Tourney 2013!

MDI led 10-4 after the 1st Quarter with Adam Gray scoring 4 points for MDI, Jon Phelps nailing a 3 pointer to lead MDI while Nason Lanphier scored all of Winslow's points.

In the 2nd Quarter MDI was set to go into the locker room with a 21-14 lead when Winslow's Trevor Lovely was fouled shooting a 3 pointer with no time left. Lovely calmly stepped to the line and sank all 3 foul shots to make the score at the half MDI 21 Winslow 17. Lovely scored 10 points in the 2nd Quarter including a 3 pointer. MDI's Gray had 4 more points giving him 8 at the half, and Phelps drained his 2nd 3 pointer of the night.

In the 3rd Quarter Winslow took the lead with 4:08 left in the 3rd Quarter 25-24 on a Justin Martin 3 pointer. Marin scored 10 points in the 3rd Quarter, including 2 3 pointers. For MDI Phelps had 2 more 3 pointers, giving him 4 for the game, and Ben Walls hit a 3 pointer for the Trojans. After a back and forth remainder of the 3rd Quarter the Trojans were up 33-32 at the end of the 3rd Quarter with 8 minutes left to play.

In the 4th Quarter, Winslow took a 3 point lead, but the Trojans came storming back. Key to the Trojans victory was the fact that they shot 7-11 from the free throw line in the final quarter, after going 3-9 through 3 Quarters. Keegan McKim had 7 points in the final quarter for the Trojans, going 5-7 from the line.

Jon Phelps ended up the leading scorer for MDI with 16 points, including 4 3 pointers. Adam Gray had 11 for the Trojans. For Winslow, they were led by Trevor Lovely with 17 points including 2 3 pointers and Justin Martin had 10 points including 2 3 pointers. MDI ended up ended up 10-21 from the free throw line while Winslow was 8-13.

With the victory MDI improves to 16-3 on the season, while Winslow finishes at 14-6. MDI will take on the winner of the Presque Isle – Waterville Quarterfinal Winner on Wednesday, and we will have that game on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio.
