Students from the College of the Atlantic, MDI High School and adults from Mount Desert Island will gather from 12 Noon to 1PM on the Village Green in Bar Harbor.  In Ellsworth,, the Ellsworth Green Action Team invites anyone concerned about climate change to join in solidarity with youth around the globe who are calling for an end to the age of fossil fuels and climate justice for everyone. The Ellsworth event will take place on the downtown Union River Bridge from 4 to 5PM.

Speakers in Bar Harbor will include  Mariana Orias Lopez speaking  about the forest fires in the Amazon, students from MDI High School, Rep. Brian Hubbell, and College of the Atlantic students.

MDI High School Sophomore Sirohi Kumar said “I am striking from the climate because the Earth we are inheriting is going to be our responsibility, and we might as well take on the responsibility now, because no one else is doing anything!”

Sofie Dowling, a Senior at MDI High School said  “I’m striking for the climate because I’m interested in the future of this beautiful place, and no one else seems to be willing to protect it.”
Representative Nicole Grohoski of Ellsworth will speak at 4:30 to those gathered in Ellsworth. .

"I am proud to stand with our youth leaders around the world who are asking for a healthy and livable future," said Representative Grohoski. "Our world is changing around us and we must act now to transition our fossil fuel economy to a diverse energy economy that provides good jobs here in Downeast Maine. I invite all those who are concerned about our future to join this global movement, right here at home."
