Toddler Escapes While Older Sibling Injured In Oxford, Maine Camper Fire
A young child in Oxford was injured after a fire broke out in a camper on Tuesday afternoon. An official with the Maine Department of Public Safety says it was a little before 5 PM when authorities were called about a fire at 72 Gore Road.
"Upon arrival, firefighters entered the camper and rescued a seven-year-old girl from inside. The fire was quickly extinguished. The child was transported by Oxford Fire-Rescue to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway and later flown by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland. She is expected to survive."
Authorities say the 7-year-old was not the only child in the camper at the time of the fire. A three-year-old sibling was also at the scene, but was able to escape before help arrived.

The Department of Public Safety spokesperson says the camper was one of two that were on the property, along with a home. Neither the other camper nor the home was damaged as a result of the fire.

The children were the only occupants of the camper at the time the fire broke out. The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating and says that it appears the fire may have been accidentally set by the 3-year-old who got hold of a lighter.
Officials are also looking into whether any of the campers on the property were being used as a residence or just being stored on site, but say the folks who live at the property are cooperating with the authorities.
