Maine BMVs To Roll Out ‘Domestic Abuse’ Initiative At Local Offices Soon
According to the World Population Review, of the state of Maine's over 1.405 million residents, over half the women in this state and 21% of the men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime.
"Domestic violence can happen to anyone of any age and can occur in both heterosexual and same-sex relationships. Domestic violence can also include violence against children, parents, or the elderly and can take on several forms, including physical, verbal, emotional, and sexual abuse."
To that degree, there's a new initiative coming to Maine's Bureau of Motor Vehicles that hopes to raise awareness of this substantial problem, and offer folks a path to resources that might help folks currently suffering from Domestic Violence Abuse.
This week, the Maine Secretary of State's office announced that it will utilize the state's 13 BMV branch offices as a way to get this information out, via pamphlets, flyers and posters.

"Our hope is the increased awareness will encourage someone experiencing abuse in their home, or perhaps a concerned loved one, to reach out for help and support.”
Patrisha McLean, CEO and Founder of Finding Our Voices, says she appreciates the state's willingness to join forces for such an important cause.
"With domestic violence once again at the root of about half of all homicides in Maine in our state's latest crime report, it is wonderful for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to be prioritizing and amplifying this issue. Thank you to Shenna Bellows and all at the department who are driving change in Maine by partnering with Finding Our Voices."
