Donate Your Extra Winter Items To Help Folks In Bangor Stay Warm
It's that in-between time of year when the days are still nice and can tend to be warmer, but the nights are getting chilly.
Before long, those nights will be downright freezing, and the days won't feel that much warmer, temperature-wise.
If you have a warm house or structure to take refuge in during the winter months, the colder seasons in Maine are almost bearable. But those with nowhere to go are left looking for alternative ways to get and stay warm.
The Bangor Homeless Shelter and other area organizations do their best to provide the unhoused population in the Greater Bangor area with places to warm up and warm clothes for the winter. This year they're getting a jump start on collecting the supplies they know may mean the difference between life and death during the winter.
They made a plea to the public via their Facebook Page, for folks to consider donating items that guests of warming shelters in the area could use to keep warm in the coming months.
"Please think about donating: Adult-sized used or new boots or sneakers, adult-sized used or new winter coats, hoodies, sweatpants, and mylar emergency blankets."
Organizers say the donations can be dropped off at the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter at 263 Main Street, daily between 8 AM and 5:45 PM.
