Discover 12 Scenic Maine Drives Perfect For a Summer Road Trip

Normally, when we think about taking a summer road trip, we envision driving halfway across the country to visit a much-hyped tourist destination.

The Grand Canyon, Disney World, Universal Studios, or Niagara Falls, for example.

It is important to remember that not all road trips require your entire family to be crammed into the family SUV for a solid week!

We are fortunate to live in Maine, where we have a ton of scenic road trips that can be completed in less than a day.

We have taken the time to put together a list of about a dozen great scenic drives that will allow you to see some of the most majestic parts of our state.  These trips will take you past our rugged coastline and through our state's mountains.

Additionally, for those making the trip using a motorcycle or in a sportier car, these drives are fun.  Nearly all feature at least a few sharp turns and lots of elevation changes.

For example, the Old Canada Road National Scenic Byway is a 78-mile stretch of U.S. Route 201 from Solon to the Canadian border.
