To many, he was the husband of Kathy Lee Gifford, and she used to make fun of him constantly on the Regis and Kathy Lee Show. But, if you are over 40, you may remember that Frank Gifford was a Hall of Fame quarterback for the New York Giants and was an announcer of Monday Night Football. Gifford, 84, died at his home in Connecticut on Sunday, August 9th.

Gifford was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977. He played for 12 years in the NFL, all for  the New York Giants. In 1956, Gifford led his team to a Super Bowl win over the Chicago Bears and won the league's MVP award.

He was also the play by play announcer for Monday Night Football from 1971-1985. He was the second play by play announcer for MNF, having replaced Keith Jackson. It was Gifford, Howard Cosell and "Dandy" Don Meredith that made Monday Night Football must watch TV.

In a statement released by his family on Sunday they said

"Frank died suddenly this beautiful Sunday morning of natural causes at his Connecticut home. We rejoice in the extraordinary life he was privileged to live, and we feel grateful and blessed to have been loved by such an amazing human being. We ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time and we thank you for your prayers."
