The Ellsworth Girl's Basketball Team played host to Foxcroft Academy on Friday, December 9th, the opening night of the 2016-17 season, and came up a bit short, loosing to the Ponies 57-49.

Foxcroft Academy jumped out to a 16-8 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter, thanks to 4 3-pointers. Kendra Ewer had a pair of them for 6 points, while Abbi Bourget and Grace Bickford each had a 3-pointer and totaled 5 points in the quarter. For Ellsworth, they received 2 3-pointers, 1 from Sammy Mason who had 5 points, and the other from Hannah Sargent who had 3 points.

The Ponies outscored Ellsworth 13-12 in the 2nd Quarter to take a 29-20 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Sargent had 2 more 3-pointers for Ellsworth and finished with 8 points in the quarter, while Mason had another 3-pointer and Kaitlynn Bagley had 1 point. For Foxcroft Academy Abigail Simonson had 6 points in the quarter and Alli Bourget had a 3-pointer for 5 points and Makenzie Beadry had 2 points.

Ellsworth outscored Foxcroft Academy 14-9 in the 3rd Quarter to cut the lead to 38-34. Bagley had 8 points in the quarter for Ellsworth, and Trinity Montigny scored her 1st varsity points, scoring 3 points, and Mason had 3 points for the Eagles. For the Ponies, Bickford had another 3-pointer and Alli and Abbi Bourget each had 2 points and Siimonson had 2 more points.

In the 4th Quarter, Montigny led the way for Ellsworth, scoring 8 points, including a 3-pointer. Bagley added 4 points and Mason 3 for the Eagles. But the Ponies received 8 points from Beadry, and 6 points from Alli Bourget to stay ahead of Ellsworth.

Foxcroft Academy was led by Alli Bourget with 13 points, while Makenzie Beadry and Abigail Simonson each had 10 points. The Ponies were 3-5 from the free point line with a total of 6 3-pointers.

Ellsworth had 4 players in the scoring book. Mason finished with a game high 14 points, Bagley had 13 points and Montigny and Sargent each finished with 11 points. The Eagles were 13-24 from the free throw line, and had 6 3-pointers.

Foxcroft Academy is 1-0 and will play John Bapst at the Cross Insurance Center on Tuesday, December 13th at 7 PM.

Ellsworth is 0-1 and will travel to East Corinth to play Central High School on Tuesday, December 13th at 7 PM in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.
