The Boston Red Sox officially opened training camp Friday with the mandatory reporting of pitchers and catchers.Nearly the entire roster was already in Fort Myers including many pitchers that have been in town working out for several weeks. Positional players have also reported early with the only two not present being David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia. Positional players do not have to be at camp until Tuesday.

Following the first day of official workouts, manager John Farrell talked about the roster and the potential for the team to have a special season. Farrell also said he was not worried about the lack of a number one starter, the shape of new third baseman Pablo Sandoval, and that Shane Victorino enters camp as the starting right fielder ahead of Mookie Betts.
