An unidentified woman is helping some Ellsworth families postpone foreclosure by paying their balances for Christmas.

Several people in Ellsworth received a notice from the city that their outstanding foreclosure balances had been paid. Ellsworth's Deputy Treasurer, Amanda Tupper told WFVX-TV that she's never seen anything like it. A woman, whose identity is not being released, walked into Tupper's office and said she wanted to find a way to make someone's year a special one. So Tupper showed her the list of foreclosures and suggested she help out someone with a smaller balance. The very generous woman ended up paying off five of them.

Stories abound at Christmas of anonymous Secret Santa's who pay off people's layaway's. It's nice to see the same kind of generosity, right here in Maine, that will enable families who are struggling to spend the holidays in their homes.
