Ellsworth Falls in Finals 5-1 [PHOTOS]

The Ellsworth 9-10 Softball team fell to Biddeford Monday afternoon, 5-1 in the State Finals at Demayer Field in Ellsworth.

Biddeford scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st to take a 2-0 lead as Ellsworth's nerves got the best of them. Once they settled down, Ellsworth's Casey Carter struck out two Biddeford batters before getting Hannah Gosselin to ground out.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, Ellsworth got 1 of the runs back. Casey Carter reached on an error and then promptly stole 2nd and 3rd base. Alyssa Maguire grounded out, scoring Carter, and at the end of the 1st inning Biddeford led Ellsworth 2-1.

In the top of 2nd inning, Lexi Libby reached on an error, and then went to 2nd on a passed ball. Chloe Whitaker sacrificed Libby to 3rd, and then Charlotte Donovan doubled, scoring Libby, and Biddeford led 3-1.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Charlotte Donovan struck out the side, as Victoria Watkins, Allie Pickering and Layla Pickering were all retired on strikes.

In the top of the 3rd, Casey Carter retired Biddeford in order. Baylor Wilkinson grounded out, and then Cheyenne Tardif and Alyssa Hannon both struck out.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Ellsworth went in order as Hannah Wagstaff struck out, and Morgan Clifford and Casey Carter each grounded out. At the end of 3, it was Biddeford 3 Ellsworth 1.

In the top of the 4th inning, Biddeford was retired in order. Hannah Gosselin and Lexi Libby grounded out and Haleigh Wyatt struck out.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, Jane Wu struck out, Alyssa Maguire grounded out. Alicia Harvey singled, and then tried to go to 3rd base on the overthrow, but was tagged out at 3rd.

In the top of the 5th inning, Vanessa Hale singled and would score. Laura Perrault who tried to score on a passed ball was tagged out at the plate, as Baylor Wilkinson struck out, and Ellsworth recorded a double play.

In the bottom of the 4th inning Bailey Clarke struck out, Allie Pickering grounded out, and Elsie Garrison struck out for Ellsworth. At the end of the 5th inning Biddeford led 4-1.

In the top of the 6th inning, Cheyene Tardiff walked. She stole 2nd and 3rd bases and scored on a wild pitch. Alyssa Hannon struck out, and then Hannah Gosselin bunted and reached 1st base. She would be stranded at 3rd as Lexi Libby struck out and and Chloe Whitaker grounded out.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Hannah Wagstaff grounded out, Laura Jude grounded out and Casey Carter popped up to the 3rd baseman to end the game.

Charlotte Donovan picked up the win for Biddeford, while Casey Carter took the loss for Ellsworth. Biddeford went undefeated in the tourney, 4-0, while Ellsworth ended up 2-2, losing both of their games to Biddeford.
