It was a game marked by 3-pointers, and in the end, Ellsworth made 10 3-pointers while John Bapst made 7, and Ellsworth came away with a 60-49 victory over John Bapst in a game played Thursday night, January 17th at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth. Griffin Nightingale made 4 3 pointers, Steven Mahon 3, Brandon Braley 2 and Josh Bean 1 for the Ellsworth Eagles. Cody Lyford had 5 3-pointers, and Colby Kohn and Sam Brown each had 1 3-pointer for the John Bapst Crusaders.

Ellsworth got on the scoreboard first when Braley hit a 3 pointer with 7:46 left in the 1st Quarter and Ellsworth led 3-0, a lead they would never lose. Bapst's Adam Strong put John Bapst on the scoreboard with 6:11 left and it was 3-2 Eagles. Bean scored a basket with 6:04 remaining and Nightingale swished a 3-pointer with 5:39 left and Ellsworth was on top 8-2. Cody Lyons answered with a Bapst 3 with 5:20 left and it was 8-5 but Ellsworth scored consecutive 3 pointers by Nightingale and Steven Mahon and with 4:50 remaining in the 1st Quarter Ellsworth was up 14-5. Adam Strong scored a 3 pointer followed by a 2 pointer and with 1:45 left, Ellsworth was up 14-9. With 1:11 left, Bean went 2-2 from the free throw line and Ellsworth led 16-9. John Bapst's Austin Cyr scored with 9.7 seconds remaining and that's how the 1st Quarter ended, with Ellsworth up 16-11.

In the 2nd Quarter Bean scored another 3 pointer for Ellsworth followed by a basket by Ellsworth's Bruce St. Peter and with 5:01 left in the half Ellsworth was up by 10, 21-11.  But then Cody Lyons hit consecutive 3 pointers for the Crusaders, and Ellsworth's lead was cut to 4, 21-17. Mahon answered with a 3 pointer for the Eagles with 3:34 remaining and Ellsworth was up 24-17. Andrew Gatchell then hit consecutive baskets and it was 24-21 Ellsworth. Sam Brown scored a basket for Bapst and the lead was 1, 24-23 but Brandon Braley hit a 3 pointer with 1:30 left in the half, and that's how the half ended, with Ellsworth up 27-23.

With 6:54 left in the 3rd Quarter, John Bapst's Riley Tapley sank a basket, and Bapst had drawn within 2 points, 27-25. Mahon then went 1-2 from the free throw line and Nightingale hit a 3 pointer with 6:17 left, and the lead was 5, 30-25. Bruce St. Peter then went 2-2 from the free throw line, Nightingale sank a basket and Braley hit a 2 with 4:30 left in the 3rd Quarter, and Ellsworth's lead was 11, 36-25. Tapley hit a 2 for Bapst with 3:47 followed by a Mahon 2 pointer with 3:38 left and it was 38-27 Ellsworth. Lyon's then hit consecutive 3 pointers for John Bapst and with 1:44 left, Ellsworth's lead was cut to 5, 38-33. Ellsworth's Derek Look's basket made it 40-33. Things went a little bizarre as John Bapst's Assistant Coach was assessed two technical fouls and ejected from the game. Ellsworth went 3-4 from the free throw line and then Nightingale hit consecutive 3 pointers and Ellsworth was up by 13 points, 46-33. Riley Tapley finished the scoring for Bapst  and after 3 quarters, Ellsworth was up 49-35.

Colby Kohn swished a 3 pointer for John Bapst with 7:37 remaining in the game and Ellsworth led by 11, 49-38. Derek Look hit a basket for Ellsworth followed by a Lyons 2, a Kohn 2 and a Tapley 2, and with 4:46 remaining, Ellsworth's lead was 7, 51-44. Brandon Braley then hit a 2 for Ellsworth and with 4:21 remaining, Ellsworth led 53-47. With 4:07 left, Sam Brown hit a 3 pointer for Bapst and it was 53-47. Bapst's Andrew Gatchell fouled out with 3:57 remaining  and with 3:35 left Mahon's 2 pointer made it 55-47. Ellsworth's St. Peter then made a 2  followed by Mahon's 3 pointer and the game ended with Ellsworth up top 60-47.

With the victory, the Ellsworth Eagles improved to 4-7 on the season and next play their rival MDI in Bar Harbor on Saturday, January 19th. John Bapst falls to 3-8 on the season, and travel up to Aroostook County to play the Caribou Vikings on Saturday January 19th.
