Back to the Regional Finals MDI Beats Presque Isle 72-60 [Box Score/Recap]

The MDI Trojans' goal of winning back to back gold balls is still alive as they beat the Presque Isle Wildcats Wednesday night, February 21st 72-60 in the Class B Northern Maine Semifinals at the Cross Insurance Center. The Trojans will now play in the Regional Finals Saturday, February 24th at approximately 3:35 PM.

The score was tied at 15-15 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Griffin Guerrette had 12 points including 2 3-pointers for Presque Isle. Adam Paterson had a 3-pointer for the Wildcats. For MDI Drew Shea had 6 points, Andrew Phelps had 5 points with a 3-pointer and Finn McConomy and Derek Collin each had 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter MDI outscored Presque Isle 22-11 to take a 37-26 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Collin had 8 points for MDI. Colby Lee had 5 points, McConomy had a 3-pointer, and Dane Vanzura, Shea and Owen Mild each had 2 points for the Trojans. For Presque Isle Guerrette had 7 points, with 2 3-pointes, Jonah Hudson and Trace Cy each had 2 points.

In the 3rd Quarter, MDI outscored Presque Isle 15-11 to increase their lead to 15 points at the end of the 3rd Quarter, 52-37. For MDI Collin had 4 points, Lee had a 3-pointer, Phleps had 3 points, Vanzura 2 points and Mild 1 point. For the Wildcats, Trace Cyr had 4 points, Hudson a 3-pointer, Adam Paterson 3 points and Guerrette 1 point.

In the 4th Quarter MDI hit their free throws, going 12-16. Derek Collin had 7 points, Phelps 5 points, McConomy 4 points and Lee and Shea 2 points each. For the Wildcats Guerrette had 10 points, Hudson 6 points on 2 3-pointers, Cole Paterson 5 points with a 3-pointere and Cyr 2 points.

MDI, had 5 players in double figures. Derek Collin lead the Trojans with 21 points. Andrew Phelps had 13 points, Finn McConomy 11 points and Colby Lee and Drew Shea with 10 points each. The Trojans were 21-29 from the free throw line.

Presque Isle was led by Griffin Guerrette with a game high 30 points. Jonah Hudson had 11 poitns. The Wildcats were 7-11 from the free throw line.
