A young woman is dead after losing control of her vehicle on a curve, and two others were hurt.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says all three were students at Sacopee Valley High School in Hiram.

State Police say 16-year-old Alexia Valente lost control on a curve while driving on the River Road in Hiram around 7 p.m. Speed is being cited as a cause for the accident, and troopers say two other teens riding with Valente sustained non life threatening injuries in the crash.

According to McCausland, troopers say there was no indication that any of the students were wearing seat belts.

The 1998 Nissan Sentra left the road and struck a tree on the driver's side.
