A woman called police just before 10:30 Saturday night to report that she had shot her husband in the arm. Police say it appears to have been an accident.

Winslow Police Chief Shawn O'Leary says Jane Marie Aucoin-Labreque, age 53 called 911 and reported that she accidentally shot her husband Paul, age 55, in the arm. When police arrived, they found a distraught Aucoin-Labreque outside the house, waiting for police and rescue.

Mr. Labreque was found inside, sitting in a chair with a gunshot wound to the elbow. He was taken to Maine General Medical Center Thayer in Waterville, and later transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for non-life threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate but believe this to have been an accidental shooting. Once the investigation is finished, the case will be turned over to the Kennebec County District Attorney's Office for review, which is standard procedure.
