The Waterville School Committee voted Monday night to dismiss High School Principal Don Reiter amidst accusations of inappropriate behavior.

Reiter was placed on paid administrative leave in September after a student told authorities that he had asked her for sex. Police opened an investigation into the matter and then handed it off to the District Attorney's Office, but no charges have been filed.

After the School Committee's first meeting on the matter, police were contacted by former students of Reiter's when he worked in New Hampshire. Their accusations were similar, according to police, to the ones made by the Waterville HS student. An investigation was launched in New Hampshire and Waterville police reopened the case.

On Monday night, the School Committee voted 6 to 1 to dismiss Reiter, stating that the decision was based solely on the accusations in Maine. However, Reiter's attorney told Central Maine News that it would be hard for them to 'unhear' the new accusations.

Reiter has 30 days to appeal the decision.
