A Waldoboro man suffered broken bones and lacerations when his car crashed into a tree in the yard of a home on Cushing Road in Friendship.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office says Joseph Solomon, 39, told deputies he crossed the center line and overcorrected when he tried to get back in his lane. Solomon lost control of the car and struck a tree in the yard of someone's home.

Deputies said the crash was so violent it ripped the engine from the vehicle, and it was sitting on the roadway when they arrived on the scene.

Solomon was transported by life-flight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

The sheriff's office said speed and alcohol likely played a role in the crash.
