The Maine Department of Transportation is asking the public to vote for their favorite funny highway signs, as part of a statewide contest.

Those huge highway signs that flash safety messages took a funny turn a while back, and the public response was overwhelming. So often ignored by drivers, they were suddenly topics of water cooler conversations. So the Maine Department of Transportation decided they wanted some help coming up with the slogans, and asked people to submit their own ideas. The MDOT even came up with some prizes, including passes to the Penobscot Narrows Observatory, Gray Animal Park, and Maine State Parks.

After receiving nearly 2,000 suggestions, they've narrowed it down to their top 60, and are asking the public to vote for their favorite. The voting is being conducted on the Maine DOT's website, and is using a 'traffic light' voting process. Choosing the Red Light means you don't like it, the Yellow means it's okay, or pick the Green Light to indicate that you love it.

Voting lasts until April 30th, so check out the options soon. My favorite so far is 'BIKERS SHOULD BE SEEN, NOT HURT, but I've just started looking. Maine has some pretty creative people!
